About Texas’ Third Special Legislative Session Activities

Earlier this year, US Representative Bill Flores disclosed his retirement, which caused him to be the fifth GOP member from Texas to exit Congress. Flores served the 17th congressional district, including College Station and Waco. As for the Texas Tribune’s political correspondent Patrick Svitek, the seat of Flores is not likely to be flipped to the Democratic Party members.

As per Svitek, some of the Texas GOP members who retired from their seats were facing tough races last year, but Bill Flores was an exception. Svitek also reported that Flores’ explanation for the retirement was primarily familial.

On the November 05, 2021 ballot, there were three elections for Texas House seats. The special elections also occur because of the retirements of Texas House representatives. According to Svitek, the seat to watch out for is the one related to Representative John Zerwas’ congressional district.

According to Svitek, Democrats were already eyeing the seat somewhat before Zerwas disclosed his retirement. There are seven candidates vying for the seat, which comprise six Republicans and one Democratic Party member.

Describing a Texas special election as a low-turnout and unpredictable event, Svitek stated that anything is possible in it.
