High-Profile National Politicians Visiting Texas A Trend Now

Texas Flag waving in wind

In July 2021, Texas was planning to allocate $100 million to support colleges in the state that train individuals to get into logistics, healthcare and other in-demand jobs. As for The Texas Tribune’s editor Ross Ramsey, it would be an impetus to those training programs and industries.

Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff and First Lady of the US Jill Biden went to North Texas in July to promote coronavirus vaccination. Ramsey said that their move followed the visit of former US President Donald Trump to the border of South Texas with Governor Gregg Abbott. Ramsey said that these are part of national politicians visiting Texas, a bigger trend that the editor expects would continue when political competitiveness increases in the state.

Ramsey stated that national politics coming into the state of Texas is a scenario that natives should be familiar with over the next few years. Then again, the visit of Douglas Emhoff and Jill Biden was a strategy to address the pandemic too. Texas is among the biggest states in the US with regard to population. Therefore, increasing vaccinations in Texas could do much good for America’s vaccination rate on the whole.

Former Texas Representative James White said that he would oppose Sid Miller, the Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture, in next year’s Republican primary. The Texas House had no African-American Republican Party Member other than White, who resigned this year. At the time of his resignation, White did not talk about his future plans. Ramsey was waiting for the endorsement of another key non-Texan political figure, Donald Trump, in the election race.

Describing Trump as an unpredictable person who could make any move, Ramsey considered it an important endorsement. The endorsement of Trump has been a key factor in the 2022 Texas Attorney General election race.
