Texas Open To Moving On Opioid Settlement Worth Billions Of Dollars

Here, we will discuss some of the biggest pieces of news in state politics thanks to Texas Tribune political reporter James Barragán.

Ken Paxton, the Attorney General of Texas, has revealed that the state would get around $1.20 billion as settlement money from a lawsuit about opioids. Barragán described the settlement of the lawsuit as an important thing. Barragán had been keeping an eye on the lawsuit as it unfolded. He told the Texas Standard that the Office of the Attorney General has sufficient support from counties and cities to agree on a settlement with the three main pharmaceutical companies concerned.

AG Paxton is also part of a different lawsuit made against the Joe Biden government, over federal protocols on coronavirus disease and airplanes. Barragán stated that Paxton has an ongoing dispute with the US federal government about the bids to prevent this epidemic.

Further, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., also filed a civil rights-related complaint against the Carroll Independent School District. It is a school district in Texas that has been in the news many times over the last few years in relation to racist events.
