What Campaign Finance Details Say About Texas AG And Governor Races

According to the Texas Tribune’s James Barragán, the state has made 2021 campaign finance reports public.

Barragán told Texas Standard that Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke of Texas raised around $7 million over the first month and a half of his gubernatorial campaign. It is an impressive amount for a Democratic Party member from Texas. However, it is far from the amount that Governor Greg Abbot’s campaign raised in 2021’s last half. The campaign for Abbot has a total of about $65 million.

The amounts that Republican AG primary candidates raised are more surprising. Barragán said that erstwhile Supreme Court member Eva Martinez Guzman raised $3.7 million. Guzman raised more in campaign finance than all the other candidates in the primary for Texas attorney general.
