Will Texas Democrats Stay In Washington Due To State’s Voting Reforms?

Texas democrats, voting reforms, Texa Legislature

The second Texas State Legislature session starts this weekend, with the agenda to look slightly familiar to its first session as it includes things that did not get passed. The agenda has some inclusions from Texas Governor Greg Abbot that might lure the many Democrats, who left Texas for DC, to come back to this state. Earlier in 2021, the Democratic Party members left Texas to prevent a vote related to the Republican Party-endorsed reforms.

As for The Texas Tribune’s Ross Ramsey, Abbot vetoed the state legislative budget over the voting bill. Ramsey also stated that the bill should be reinstated to avoid 2,100 Texas workers, who basically make the State Capitol Building run, getting unemployed.

September 01, 2021, marks the start of another fiscal year, and there should be a fresh budget in place.

Thus far, the Democratic Party members have been silent regarding their plans. As for Ramsey, it seems that the main objective of the Democrats is to make Congress pass voting-related legislation, which would also preempt what Texas’s and other states’ legislatures are attempting to do.

While there is scope for compromise about the said legislation, tensions remain between the Democratic Party and the GOP.

Ramsey stated that the GOPs are mad about the Democratic Party members’ quorum-breaking walkout. On the other hand, the latter party members are mad about their counterparts basically taking away their entire options. Ramsey thinks that there might be room for negotiation between those party members, but he is unsure whether they want it.
