Dan Patrick And Greg Abbott Looking To Get Texas Supreme Court To Throw Out Ken Paxton’s Whistleblower Suit

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Gov. Greg Abbott are demanding that the Texas Supreme court regard Attorney General Ken Paxton’s request to get a whistleblower lawsuit brought against him tossed.

James Barragán, a political reporter for the Texas Tribune, said “It was interesting to see them weigh in on this,” adding that “They said they want the Supreme Court to take it up and give their consideration and decision on whether that lawsuit should be thrown out or go forward.”

Numerous top aides of Paxton resigned or were fired following allegations that he exploited his office towards achieving political gain. Ultimately they sued Paxton, citing being forced out of office when they chose to speak up. Following this, a lower court ruled in opposition to Paxton’s bid that the suit against him be thrown out.

Patrick and Abbot, According to Barragán, “Interestingly…didn’t say whether they are on the side of Ken Paxton. They left it very vague and just said that it is a statewide administrative issue that deals with an executive and with statewide issues – and it should be dealt with by a statewide court and not these lower courts.”
