Republican AG Candidates Criticize The Legal Issues Of Paxton

The GOP Primary election for the attorney general position of Texas became more intense after the candidate filing deadline for it. For the uninitiated, Texas AG election candidates had until December 13, 2021, to submit their applications for the election.

In the previous midterm election, Ken Paxton competed without any opposition in the Texas primary and sailed to another term. Conversely, there are many high-profile attorney general candidates this time around, including Texas Land Office Commissioner George Prescott Bush and erstwhile Supreme Court member Eva Guzman. The central point of the electoral campaign trail for the other candidates is the set of legal troubles for incumbent Paxton.

According to Texas Tribune reporter James Barragán, Paxton has been facing a six-year indictment for securities fraud, and there have been accusations of him misusing his AG office and accepting bribes. Barragán also stated that the other candidates continue to focus on that legal issue.
