Leading Republican Calls For Steve McCraw’s Resignation

In the wake of the shooting at a school in Uvalde, Texas Department of Public Safety Chief Steve McCraw is fielding an increasing number of calls for him to step down from his position. After it was determined that 91 DPS officers were present at the scene of the shooting, but that they delayed engaging the shooter for more than an hour, the relatives of the victims and Beto O’Rourke, who was running for governor, called for McCraw to resign.

“This is Rep. Tony Gonzalez of Congressional District 23, which encompasses Uvalde,” James Barragán of The Texas Tribune writes”. “This is unique. Democrats have been responsible in the past; most recently, Beto O’Rourke. However, I’ve never heard a Republican say in all seriousness, “Hey, there were mistakes done and he needs to go. That is now taking place. It will be fascinating to watch whether this spreads or if the district’s representative in Congress is the only one.
