Texas Sues Biden Rules Reclassifying Pistols as Rifles

In response to a rule change that reclassifies some pistols as rifles and gives them different rules, Ken Paxton, the Attorney General of Texas, has filed a lawsuit against the administration of former Vice President Joe Biden.

According to James Barragán, a political writer for the Texas Tribune, the new regulation that was issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) impacts handguns that have rear attachments that are referred to as “stabilizers.” “The rule basically says that if you are attaching them to your firearms, you have to register that,” while also mentioning that the change does not apply to people who have disabilities; rather, it only applies to people “who do not have disabilities because these have been used in mass shootings,”  the author of the rule explains.

The lawsuit filed by Attorney General Paxton joins forces with Gun Owners of America, an organization located in Virginia, to contest the regulation change.
